Document Summary
Mod 3: early epidemics & the creation of the public health state. {this theory is not up for debate and accepted to this day; not even an theory at all. } Laboratories and laboratory scientists didn"t exist until the 19th cent. They tended to work out of their homes because universities didn"t have places for them to set up. Ex: robert boyle (boyle"s law) in his home lab. Scientific careers and labs first emerged in early mid 19th cent european universities. Early pioneers- they really had to sell their work to universities and get funding. Liebig (isolating compounds on cold tar and the different dyes to stain different bacteria and things we would put on slides) and. Bernard were successful in getting their universities to fund their work. Made promises of eco benefits for their regions and being able to use cold tar with dyes. This interested the university and others in the region.
