Document Summary

All animals are made of multiple cells: cells must divide and get more cells, cell movement, cell signaling, apoptosis (some cells are destroyed, cell differentiation (cells become different cells) In cancer, apoptosis was important to kill bad cells. It is also a normal program in cell development. In this example, apoptosis removes the cells between the foot. How much capacity has for a cell to become a different cell type is referred to as potent. It has the capacity and will give rise to every single cell in the body. As the cells divide, the cells become more and more restricted. In the blastocyst there are an inner cell mass (they can become anything excluding the placenta) As the embryo develops, they lose more of their potential and are called multipotent. These can still give rise to more that one type of cells. When you"re an adult, most cells become terminally differentiated.
