Document Summary

Types of hormone receptors: intracellular receptors, cell-surface receptors! Receptor with enzymatic activity: guanylate cyclase, receptor tyrosine kinase (rtk), serine/threonin kinase! Pituitary: secretes many hormones, two distinct anatomic sections! Anterior pituitary: produces 6 major hormones! Growth hormone (gh): insulin-like growth factors (igfs) mediate gh actions in postnatal vertebrates! Monday, october 31, 2016: oversecretion of gh leads to:! Prolactin (prl): stimulates milk synthesis, also promotes maternal behavior, found in all vertebrates, important in mammory gland development, other functions in vertebrates include osmoregulation, reproduction, development, metabolism, integument (skin), and behavioral effects! Adrenocorticotropic hormone (acth): regulates the secretion of corticosteroids by the adrenal cortex, it is part of the stress response system! Follicle stimulating hormone (fsh): gonadotropin, tropic hormones! Cause release of another hormone: third-order endocrine pathway! Hypothalamic control of adenohypophysis: trh = thyrotropin-releasing hormone, gnrh = gonadotropin-releasing hormone! Stimulates fsh and lh-release: crh = acth-releasing hormones.
