Document Summary

Umn: brain and spinal cord lmn: send axons out of the periphery. Disinguishing efects of damage to upper vs. lower. (hyperacive relexes, spasicity, etc. ) Umn damage: muscle weakness and loss of voluntary movement. Spinal relexes sill acivated but not being innervated from the brain spacisity and hyperexlexia. Lmn damage: afecing the muscle being innervated by the nerve. Dead nerve: spinal relexes are lost, laccid paralysis, atrophy of muscles. What 4 areas of the nervous system are needed for coordinaion: motor system, vesibular system, cerebellum, sensory system. Autoimmune disorder: anibody mediated destrucion of ach receptors, gradual development of weakness. Cause unknown but linked to geneics and environmental efects. Sings and symptoms: rigidity, tremors, bradykensia, loss of postural relexes, autonomic system dysfuncion, demenia, bent forward, shule feet, and lack of arm movement when walking. Treatment: drugs that increase dopamine levodopa, drugs that simulate receptors, drugs that prevent dopamine metabolism (maois) Muliple sclerosis: autoimmune destrucion of myelin coaing of axons decreases conducion velocity.
