Document Summary

Cell growth: cell reproduction and cell division are similar in all living organisms, unicellular. Every time you divide, you reproduce a new being: multicellular. You can use cell division for many reasons. *unicellular organisms- if they reproduce they make a new being. *multicellular organisms- use cell division for many purposes. Reasons for cell division: reproduction, growth, regeneration/repairing tissues. [for regeneration; a lizard losing its tail, skin cell regeneration] 4 major steps in cell division: you need a signal to reproduce. Your signal could be a growth factor: replication of dna and cellular components, distribution of dna and components to 2 new cells equally, membrane separates to form 2 new cells. Produce cell membranes and nucleus to physically form your 2 new cells. *they have 1 circular chromosome (piece of dna) and this chromosome has a region known as the ori (origin of replication) You now have 2 circular chromosomes and these will separate from each other as the cells grow.
