Modern liberalism and furthering the common good. Government should be used to promote progress in the form of greater equality. Government should generally promote liberty and wider economic opportunity. Government"s role in regulating personal liberty should be limited (this, (this, supportive of social welfare and redistributive policies) pro-choice, support gay rights, suspicious of limits on speech, support strict separation between government and religion) Traditionalism (accompanied often by close ties with religion/nationalism) Government should preserve the positive status quo. Where change is to occur, it is typically to change to some previous condition.
