Calorie intake must be decreased by 500 kcal per day. Physical activity must be increased by 500 kcal per day. Combination of both strategies can be used! Less carbohydrates- especially refined (high glycemic index) carbohydrate structure. Protein intakes in excess of what is typically needed by adults. Liquid calories do not stimulate satiety mechanisms to the same extent as solid foods foods. Advice: use beverages that have little to no calories and limit sugar-sweetened beverages. Calorie burning is enhanced by both during and after physical activity. Expanding 100 to 300 extra calories per day above and beyond normal daily activity, while controlling calorie intake, can lead to steady weight loss.
