What are 5 interesting facts or take-aways that you gleaned from this article?
1. In considering how I perform, I found the questions that the author posed very
interesting. Understanding the importance of recognizing how I perform and how
it affects my results really changed the way that I look at my work. I would think
that I am a reader, but I work better with people in both a subordinate and
leadership role. I think I work better in smaller organizations and normally
perform better in a planned environment.
2. I found the feedback analysis section very hard to comprehend. I understand the
idea of focusing on your strengths, but I found hard not to focus on improving
your weaknesses. I did see the part where Drucker wrote, “discover where your
intellectual arrogance is causing disabling ignorance and overcome it.” What I
drew most from this part was that I need to pay attention to where I direct my
energy, because it affects my results and I will get better results when I focus
more on my strengths.
3. One main take-away I got from the article was the importance of empathy, as it
relates to your relationships with others. The most effectiveness comes from
knowing your strengths and weaknesses but also the strengths, performance
modes, and values of those that you work with.
4. One of my favorite parts of the article was actually the end when Drucker spoke
about developing a second career. This is something that I identify with a lot
because there are many things that I want to do in life and having multiple
options and hobbies are a great way to keep yourself fresh and vital.
5. It is important to be equally yoked or aligned with things that you are a part of
for maximum efficiency. Understanding your values and being fundamentally
compatible” with partners, mentors, and even organizations is a necessary part
of producing the best results.
