Document Summary

Think of plot and theme as two sides of a seesaw. Plot is what happens in the text, and theme is what the text is about on its deepest levels. Plot is facts; if we all read the same story, we all share the same plot points. If we all read the same story, we"ll have the same plot points. In the eyes of the beholder; what do you think the author"s intent was behind writing this story. Whether the bears represent all the bad things in society; pedophilia, etc. When writing a summary, highlight what is important. Then go back in order, and rewrite in your own words the information. Find thesis sentence that summarizes author"s thoughts; comes at end of introduction. If personal story, thesis sentence is usually last sentence of story. Instead of applying pie charts or graphs in your summary; just paraphrase the quote. Don"t change meaning of what author is originally trying to say.
