Document Summary

Traumatic brain injury (tbi): wound to the brain that results from a blow to the head. Neuropsychology is influenced by two main hypothesis: Brain theory: states that the brain is the source of behavior. Neuron theory: states that the neuron is the unit of brain structure and function. Cerebrospinal fluid (csf): salty fluid that cushions the brain and assists in removing metabolic waste. Cerebral cortex: outer layer of the brain. Sulci: the creases between the folds/ bumps. Longitudinal fissure: divides the two hemispheres (ex of sulci). Lateral fissure: divides each hemisphere into halves (ex of sulci). Corpus callosum: connects the brain"s hemispheres (largest commissure). Forebrain: cerebral cortex; performs higher functions like thinking, perception and learning. Brainstem: underlying tube; performs regulatory and movement producing functions; is connected to the Spinal cord: descends down back; conveys sensory information into the brain and sends commands from the brain muscles to move. Central nervous system (cns): the brain and spinal cord.
