(either both ends have 5" overhangs, or both have 3" overhangs) The only thing that will bind to a 3" overhang (5"ttaa3") is another 3" overhang of the same. We do not cut rna with restriction enzymes because rna is single-stranded. When cutting with ecor1, it looks like a smear on the gel because there are so many fragments of cut dna.
