Discuss how three authors, one from each of the following groups, account and/or advocate for the government"s role in the market enterprise of private individuals. Note: in such a discussion, as perhaps always, the historical context of each author"s writing matters: locke, smith, ricardo. Both locke and smith argue that the state plays a vital role in securing the livelihood and protecting citizens in the state. However, the extent of state involvement and what aspects of private life the state controls differs. Locke argues that, in both the state of nature and civil society, men have an inalienable right to property. As such, the role of the government is to protect the private property of individuals in the market enterprise. Similarly, smith believes that individuals flourish under a free-market governed by self-interest because of our innate qualities of trucking and bartering.
