Indications: psychotic disorders, intractable hiccups, nausea, and vomiting. Mechanism: block dopamine in the ctz and may also block ach. Contraidications: do not give in patients with seizures. Adverse effects: orthostatic hypertension, tachycardia, extrapyramidal symptoms, tardive dyskinesia, headache, blurred or dry eyes, urinary retention, dry mouth, n/v, anorexia, constipation, sedation, can increase qtc interval. Dose: po 5-10 mg 3-4 times daily, im 5-10 mg q3-4h max 40 mg/day, pr 25 mg. Indications: n/v associated with chemotherapy or pregnancy, post op n/v. Mechanism: block serotonin receptors in the gi tract, ctz, and vc. Adverse effects: headache, diarrhea, dizziness, rash, bronchospasm, prolonged. Indications: delayed gastric emptying, gastro esophageal reflux, n/v, constipation related to opiod side effects, diabetic gastroparesis. Mechanism: blocks seratonin dopamine in the ctz and or stimulate ach receptors in the gi tract (increases peristalsis). Contraindications: gi bleeding, bowel obstruction, seizures, do not give to children.
