Regression - going back to ways of childhood. Identification - modeling of yourself upon another person, less intense than introjection. Projection - attributing one"s thoughts or impulses to another person. Introjection - takes in imprint of another person including attitudes, biases, expressions, sound of voice (subconscious) Compensation - talk about strengths in order to make up for fails. Denial - failing to recognize obvious implications of situation. Isolation - splitting off of emotional components from a thought. Idealization - making something out to be better than it is, ignoring negatives and playing up positives. Rationalization - making up excuses for why you do something, protect from feelings of guilt. Incorporation - take parts of people and putting into own life. Splitting - saying that people are all good or all bad. Resistance - opposition of memory awareness, avoid memories that would make anxious. Sublimation - channeling anger into socially acceptable activity.
