It is the systematic study of the relationships among people ad organizations. Macro sociology: study of the individual from the viewpoint of the group (objective orientation) Micro sociology: how the individual perceives the group (subjective orientation) Content analysis: directive, guilt and sadness, angry and vindictive. Participant observation- cannot let the people know you are observing them. Intensive interview- relies on open-ended questions following by probing question sin a flexible format. Introduce yourself then ask some non-offensive background questions to relax the person. Simple back and forth helps to establish rapport. Fearful, defensive, don"t talk to strangers , concern for safety. Believed that workers needed to revolt to rearrange society. Believes that organizing principles in society transcended everything. In lecture we will view a portion of the film bowling for columbine, where michael moore interviewed james nichols, brother of one of the convicted oklahoma city bombers. We will have two or three questions on the methods and content of this interview.
