Aggregate: people who exist in same place at same time but do not interact/share sense identity. Category: people who share similar characteristics but aren"t tied to one another in any way. Primary groups: play most critical role in our lives, fairly small, engage in long term & emotional face-to-face interactions. Serves emotional need and expressive functions (family, lover) Secondary groups: larger and impersonal, task-focused, time-limited, serve instrumental function. In-groups: group of individuals feel like belong to, is an integral part of. Out-groups: group doesn"t feel part of, disdain or compete against (outsiders, ppl not know) Reference group: group that people compare themselves to, provides standard of measurement.
