Social Identity Theory
1 People (perceivers) from perceptions of themselves (target) based on their characteristics
and memberships in social categories (situation)
2 People (perceivers) from the perception of others (target), based on their memberships in
social categories (situation)
EXAMPLE
❖ I was raised by this type of family and went to these types of schools, this makes you
think you’re better or worse than the other guy/girl causing them to perceive you or you
to perceive them
The Perceptual Process
1. Environmental stimuli
