In the western hemisphere they are called hurricanes. In the western pacific they are called typhoons and in the indian ocean they care called cyclones. A tropical wave also called an easterly wave is shown here moving off of the coast of africa over the. The wave is shown by the bending of the stream lines, lines that show the wind flow patterns. The heavy dashed green line is the axis of the trough. The wave moves slowly westward bringing fair weather on its western side and rain showers on its eastern side.
