PHILOS 1B03 Chapter Notes - Chapter XII: Living Wage, Albert O. Hirschman, Robert E. Goodin
Document Summary
4 major flaws in the public / domestic dichotomy: neither the public nor domestic oppositions are immune from power: Power in the family has not often been recognized either because people deem it as natural or because it is assumed that unselfishness and shared interests make power an insignificant factor. However, when we look at power from a physical aspect (physical violence), these points that may make power insignificant diminish. Family violence is now much less ignored than it was in the past; it is becoming recognized as a serious problem in society. Family violence is still closely connected with the differences between the sexes in families: even domestic and private spheres are affected by political decision: If there ever was a sphere whom the state refrained from interfering, it would have to be well defined but nonetheless would be deemed as a political issue.
