Values --> what they believe is important. Differences in occupation/income/lifestyle are a result of one"s location in society. Social position --> a designated location in a social system. Social structure --> the ordered and persisting relationships among these positions in a social system. There are 3 ways in which social structure influences a person"s life: every person occupies one or more positions in the social structure. Each positions carries a set of expectations about the behaviour of the occupant of that position (role) Role expectations --> anticipations of how a person will behave based on the knowledge of his or her position. We know role expectations through socialization and personal experience: social networks --> the sets of relationships associated with the various positions a person occupies. We"re woven into different networks including those involving co-workers, family, and friends. Dense network --> most people in it know each other independently of their ties to the one person (e. g. mary; usually family)
