Spc is used to help expand your knowledge on processes. Through the identification and measurement of key variables within the process, one can identify bottlenecks and issues that are stopping the process from being efficient. One of the main purposes of spc is for understanding when a process is out of control. One must always ask this question when they identify what they believe to be an out of control process. Often there are special causes that will make the process seem to be out of control, when really it is another factor skewing the statistical results. Any time one of these questions is answered with a "yes", it must be investigated by the team before reaching any conclusions. These diagrams can be used to relate problems with the process to individual phases within the process.
