Document Summary

Set of mathematical procedures for organizing, summarizing, and interpreting information. Entire set of individuals of interest for a particular research question. A set of individuals selected from a population, usually intended to represent the population in a research study. Characteristic/condition that changes or has values for different individuals. Statistical procedures used to simplify and summarize data. Methods that use data to make general statements about a population. Naturally occuring discrepancy/error that exists between a sample statistic and the corresponding population parameter. Two different variables are observed to determine whether there is a relationship between them. One variable is manipulated while another is observed and measured. To establish a cause-and-effect relationship between the two variables, an experiment attempts to control all other variables to prevent them from influencing the result. In behavioural research, usually consists of the 2+ treatment conditions to which subjects are exposed. Consists of antecedent conditions that are manipulated prior to observing the dependent variable.
