Meaning: the construction of social reality: humans act towards people or things on the basis of the meanings they assign to those people of things , facts don"t speak for their selves. It"s our interpretation that counts : stimulus ->interpretation->response this isn"t an individual act. It is negotiated through the use of language: meaning arises out of the social interaction that people have with each other, humans have the ability to name things. We are bowl, there is a higher power bowling , we hit audience. The problem: it doesn"t allow for a response. Problem: only one ball , one direction . in communication there are multiple messages and multiple directions. Problem: when playing ping pong youre trying to win. Different actions mean different things to different people. The i is the unpredictable quality about ourselves. The i is the present and future versions of ourselves. You can"t label it because then it becomes the me.
