The effect of the propanol hydroxyl group on hemolysis rate in ovine blood cells. Osmosis is the movement of water across a semi-permeable membrane into a solution where the solvent concentration is higher. Which equalizes the concentration of the solutions on either side of the membrane. A semi-permeable membrane is a membrane that is selective on what molecules it takes in and puts out. Hemolysis is the rupturing of red blood cells. The hemolysis rate was tested for the time it to for cells to lyse at different propanol hydroxyl groups. Cell hemolysis time was determined using a light source which the test tub was held up against until piece of string could be seen through the test tube and then that time was recorded.
