PSYC 005 Chapter Notes - Chapter 7: Naturalistic Observation, Ethical Naturalism, Random Assignment
Document Summary
There are multiple studies that has been done. They include milgram"s authority study, loftus and pickrell implant of false memory, cacioppo and petty cognition score, and rosenhan psychiatric hospital study. The research includes correlational, quasi-experimental, and qualitative research. Nonexperimental research is the usage of manipulation for the independent variable with random assignment to conditions or order of conditions. Nonexperimental research does not provide strong evidence for change in independent variable. In a nonexperimental research, research question or hypothesis could be a single variable instead of two variable. It could also be a noncausal statistical relationship of variable. The research question can be a causal relationship, while the independent variable is not manipulated. The participants are also not randomly assigned for the conditions. The research question is what will determine if it is experimental or nonexperimental. An example would be a question asking about working mother diagnosed with depression.
