Incongruent trials: words and colors do not match. Reaction time for incongruent trials is higher than reaction times for congruent trials. Semantic interference: being distracted by the meaning of the word. So in incongruent trials it took longer because you processed the word meaning which didn"t match the color. Neuroimaging: researchers can directly see the information being processed by parts of the brain. Wernicke"s area: meaning of word is processed. Dorsolateral prefrontal cortex: evaluates the two types of info and makes a decision. Recognizing colored blobs would be easier for a test subject because they have no established meaning.
