Adopted greek alphabet to write language: died out when romans conquered them, writing disappeared. 750 bce conquered central italy, established colony cities. Ancestors settled in tiber region during early iron age, 1,000 bce-800 bce. Foundation myths: romulus and remus in 753 bce. 7 kings after romulus, last three etruscan, overthrown and republic began. Revolted against kings, made the senate the main aristocratic power. Etruscans greatly influenced many parts of roman society: architecture, drainage, alphabet, fashion, etc. 387 bce celts/gauls invaded italy and sacked rome: abandoned rome in return for 1,000 pounds of gold. Conquered/influenced most of italy by 265 bce.
