Week$4-Measurement$and$Geometry
Document Summary
Lecture on measurement: https://www. youtube. com /watch?v =r ampef wyoos #action =shar e. Lecture on geometry and space: https://www. youtube. com /watch?v =gxs0o18zr58#action=shar e. The fundamentals of mathematics- models of multiplication and division: https://www. youtube. com /watch?v =gxjuadp49ky#action =shar e. In most cases we can pair an attribute of an item with a unit that has the same attribute. For example: i want to know if the bookcase i want to buy will fit into the room i want to put it into. The attribute i want to measure is length. I then choose a unit that has length and see how many of these units it takes to match the length of the book case. This is obvious to us but it isn"t to young children. They have to learn to select an appropriate unit and match it up with no overlapping and keeping it in a straight line. That is why young children learn to measure with non-standard units, such as, their hand span.
