Practice traditional agriculture and forest harvesting practices but they still sell and produce in markets. There are lots of things that are hard to find in amazon (eg salt), so they have to buy in markets. There are two groups amerindians and folk (metis) people. The backwoods people basically peasants cuz they are a mix of subsistence and (cid:498)everybody does a little bit of everything(cid:499) markets. Their livelihoods are a mix of agriculture, fishing, hunting, forest product extraction. ***see slide with graph on each villages share of income for more info*** Through these studies there are actually very specific specializations that were going on. Even though it seems as though everybody does a little bit of everything, households and communities still specialize in distinct market products.
