2 groups: amerindians (been there for milleniums) and folk (metis) peoples (been there for 400 years) The envr they live in is not necesarlly rich but very diverse. the amazonian forest is super diversed. Its in west amazon that we find the amerindians. The people there are very turned to the envr, and they do a little bit of everything (agri, fishing, extraction. Not a lot of guys are into hunting; but there can be very high product speciability (some are just hunting dears, not just cutting a type of plant, etc) Households and communities specialize in distinct market products. Small communities are very egalitarian, and few authority. No market of land or labour or other inputs. But land can be very inequally distributes were land markets are absent. driven by differences in initial endowments and access to labour for clearing.
