Effector t cells are the resulting differentiated t cells from activated t cells. They can be classified in the following types, depending on: the transcription factors they express, the profile of cytokines they make, their main function in adaptive immunity. Once activated, an effector t cells does not require costimulation to act. Remember the name of 5 subtypes: th1 or th2 or tfh or th17 or treg, all secrete different cytokines. Differentiation of t helper cell subsets is regulated by polarizing cytokines.
