Document Summary

In 1879 wilhelm wundt at the university of leipzig started the first laboratory that studied the psychology in its earliest forms. The idea of materialism concluded that humans behave just like any other matter in the universe. John locke and francis bacon were among the fathers of empiricism. They believed in equality and the rights of the individual given structure through a social contract. Other early philosophers such as plato and aristotle believed in the connection between the mind and the body and constructed the earliest forms of what is now known as mental health . It was the first investigations into deductive thinking processes, impairments to thinking, and rational/irrational thought. One way to define the field of study is as the scientific study of the mind, brain and behaviour: learning about famous theories and approaches to psychology throughout history and the notable psychologists who developed them. Hermann ludwig ferdinand von helmholtz studied the speed of responses, or reaction time.
