Suicide rates peak between ages 40 to 59. 40-59 years old: hanging (lower), poisoning, rearm, other. 60 and older: hanging (lower), rearm, poisoning, other. Suicide rates have increased 60% in last 45 years, leading to 1 million suicides per year worldwide. This may be due to improvements and changes in reporting. Suicidal ideation: thoughts about suicide (active and passive) Suicide attempt: survived a suicide attempt (behaviours) Nonsuicidal self injury: self harm without intent to die. Intense experiences of anxiety and depression, some moderation of intense emotions. Men are far more likely to commit suicide than women. Women are more likely to attempt suicide than men, however men use more lethal methods (= are successful). Suicide rates differ by rate and ethnicity in the united states.
