PSY 204 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Episodic Memory, Habituation, Implicit Memory
Document Summary
In each step of the process, info has to be processed, older babies are more effective than younger babies are due to their more advanced processing of info. Habituation occurs when babies are exposed to the same stimulus repeatedly and gradually start showing less interest in it. Dishabituation occurs when a new stimulus appears, and they start paying attention to this. Visual preference refers to infants" tendencies to spend more time looking at one object rather than at another. Visual recognition refers to the ability to discriminate between a familiar and unfamiliar object. Auditory discrimination refers to the ability to differentiate between sounds. Memory refers to the acquisition, storing and retrieval of info. Short-term memory refers to the temporary storage of immediate info and thus includes the working memory, which is involved in aspects such as learning. Long-term memory refers to the permanent or semi-permanent storage of episodic, semantic and procedural memory. Semantic memory: memory of facts and general knowledge.
