As children progress through early childhood, they are increasingly able to hold more material in the short-term memory. Ltm is regarded as our permanent storehouse of information. We remember little before the age of 5. In spite of forgetfulness and childhood amnesia, certain kinds of ltm do occur. For example, children will find it difficult to describe a bedtime routine of a week even in early childhood ago and will only be able to describe what usually happens at bedtime. This generic knowledge (general knowledge about a subject or event) is called script knowledge. This consist of deliberate mental activities to improve the processing and storing. Two of the most investigated memory strategies are: Accessing information and entering it into consciousness. Refers to a type of memory that notices whether a stimulus is identical or similar to one previously experienced.
