Pluralism: a theoretical position that argues that power in capitalist societies is spread among a wide number of equally influential interest groups and associations which guarantees that no one group can dominate the others. Progressive taxation: occurs when citizens are taxed on the basis of their ability to pay. The more income one has the more taxes one pays. Regressive taxation: there is no connection between the amount of wealth or income one has and tax one pays. Transfer payments: payments from on level to another level of government. Rule of law: a formally determined set of rules or principles that applies in theory at least to all with its jurisdiction.
