Strains and sprains: dislocation and subluxation, repetitive strain injuries, rotator cuff injury, meniscus injury. Strains (has a t" in it, injury of. Injury caused by twisting or pulling a muscle or tendon. Injury related to stretching or tearing of a ligament surrounding a joint. Orthopedic emergency: 1st degree- mild, involves tears of only a few fibres, 2nd degree- moderate, partial disruption of involved tissue, 3rd degree- severe, complete tearing of the ligament; occasionally require surgical suturing of the muscle and surrounding fascia. Minor sprains and strains will resolve within 3-6 week. Severe sprains can result in a avulsion fracture" or dislocation (ligament or tendon pulls away from the bone) Complete displacement or separation of the articular surfaces of the joint. Partial or incomplete displacement of the joint surface. Associated joint structures, blood supply & nerves are distorted & severely stressed.
