Scientific Terminology, body organisation and body
systems
1.1 What are anatomy, physiology and histology?
o Anatomy - the branch of science concerned with the bodily structure of humans, animals
and other organism
o Physiology - the branch of biology that deals with the normal functions of living
organisms and their parts
o Histology - the study of the microscopic structure of tissues
1.2 How is the human body organised?
o 1.2.1 cells, tissues, organs, systems
Chemicals
Cells - the basic structural unit that comprises of atoms, molecules and organelles
to perform the essential functions for life
Tissues - a group of cells that work together for a similar function
Organs - a group of cells that work together for a similar function
Organ system - a group of organs that are coordinated anatomically and work
together to perform a major function
