PSYC212 Lecture 6: PSYC212 - Lecture 6-7
Document Summary
Lecture 6: human error i active failures. E. g. intend to turn on the windscreen wipers but turn on the car indicators: violations: deliberate departures from safe practice i. e. have an intention to violate a procedure. Only occur during the performance of a skilled behaviour. The breakdown of skills during slips is due to the way skilled actions are organised and developed. Closed-loop control requires close attention to monitor feedback about error. Here there is no reliance on feedback, no longer need to pay attention like first did. Lack of skill is the simplest kind of error. Errors we make are part of the particular behaviour. E. g. when making tea, may put the milk in the sugar by mistake but do not put strawberries in the sugar. With a highly skilled activity that reaches an autonomous state, we can often make a mistake if we try and think about that automatic skill consciously.
