DOH114 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Dental Arch, Incisor, Calcification
Mandibular Lateral Incisor
Evidence of calcification: 3-4 months
Enamel formation: 4-5 years
Eruption: 7-8 years
Root completed: 10 years
Similar to mandibular central
Identifying features:
1. Slight larger than mandibular first incisor; fan-shaped crown, incisive
edge wider mesiodistally
2. Incisal aspect: incisive edge not at right-angles to bisecting line of the
root, but twisted distally in a lingual direction to follow line of dental arch
3. Mesial surface of crown slight longer than distal so that incisive edge
slope slightly
4. Faint mesial and distal marginal ridges but more pronounced than in
mandibular first incisor.
Aspect
Features
Drawing (right)
Labial
1. Crown is tilted distally on the root.
2. Mesioincisal angle is sharp, whereas
disto incisal angle is slightly rounded.
3. Bigger (area), wider (M-D) and longer
compared to centrals
4. Greater labial curvature than centrals
5. Mesial side appears longer than
distal
