Document Summary

Connective tissue: most abundant and widely distributed primary tissue in the body. Found in all organs and parts of the body but its amount varies. Composition: cells (thus it is different to epithelia, adipose cells (adipocytes) Secrete fibres and ground substance: mast cells. Immunity: white blood cells (a. k. a. leucocytes) Repair injury and fight off infections: macrophages. Phagocytose foreign molecules: ground substance, fibres. Fills the spaces between the cells of the connective tissue, and the space where the fibres are suspended. Ground substance and fibres together make up the extracellular matrix (ecm) Classes of connective tissue: connective tissue (ct) proper. Dense - more fibres [dabbing regularly improves eyesite] Compendium 2 - how do cells do what they do page 21. Fibrous coverings surrounding bones, cartilages, muscles and nerves. Gives strength to regular and irregular connective tissues. Loose - less fibres [lance armstrong acts ridiculously] Loose packing, support and binding other tissues. The connective tissue that epithelia of skin rests on.
