Document Summary

Making decisions with data: formulate questions, collect data, organise and represent data, analyse data, interpret results. We generally collect data in order to answer specific questions. Increasingly surveys are being administered online, but data may also be collected over the phone, in person, use a questionairre (such as census). A well designed survey anticipates responses and ensures follow-up questions are appropriate, does not take too long to complete, avoids bias in the way questions are asked. Experiments are conducted to see what happens under certain circumstances. When students conduct experiments, they are learning to apply the scientific method and can develop skills in predicting, observing, recording data and interpreting results. Simulations are mathematical experiments in which coins, dice, spinners or random numbers are used to model real-world events. Information: digital currency, our personal information is stored by the organisations that provide us with driver"s licenses, passports, bank accounts, credit cards, home loans, medical services, telephone and internet services.
