Has two phases - follicular (oestrogens dominant, from follicles) and luteal (progestagens dominant, from cl) Eventually cl destroyed in a controlled fashion (luteolysis) so that cycle can begin again. Ovarian steroids are produced from cholesterol which must be provided by the diet.
