Why do humans menstruate? based around human reproduction there is comparitive but focus is humans. We really need to have synchrony between the embryo and the endometrium if these two are not in sync then pregnancy is not possible. Synchrony of development needed between embryo and endometrium. Stages of blastocyst implantation embryo must be prepared and developed then you are garanteed pregnancy. Endometrial glandular epithelial secretions are required for implantation. Went on to look in a mouse model. Blastocyst secreted mirs regulate endometrial receptivity now looking at mirco rna in blastocyst spent media. Endometrial secreted factors are taken up by placental cells and support development that"s all about implantation. We think that the role of the decidular was thought to prevent invasion decidualise to stop too much invasion but more recent datat suggests it promotes invasion, important evidence showing the invasive trophoblast promotes decidulisation. Macrophages and uterine natural killer cells make it up.
