Extensions of peritoneal cavity forms pouches between viscera. Pouch of douglas: recto-uterine pouch is the longest/deepest pouch. Ovaries are surrounded by peritoneum and are therefore described as intraperitoneal. Folds of peritoneum come together over uterine tubes to form broad ligament. Comes together at bottom to form a mesentery. Supports/suspends fallopian tubes and ovaries in pelvic cavity. Suspensory ligament of ovary formed by folds over ovarian vessels. Backyard abortion: pass instruments up vagina, miss the cervix, go through posterior fornix, go into peritoneal cavity, punctures git, spread of microbes. Perineal membrane and pubic arch form attachment for roots of external genitalia in female.
