Document Summary

In 2adr ko, cockroach allergen causes less induction of goblet cells (orange stain) - much less mucin production. Wt mice treated with inverse agonist nad have less goblet activity and less mucin production. B2adr induce goblet cell mucus secretion: so b2adr might be implicated in asthma even though we thought it was protective. Signalling from empty 2-adr facilitates asthma phenotype in mice. Activation of goblet cells is less when challenged with antigen in mice that lack b2ar. Nad treatment reduces airway response to challenge, to similar level to ko mouse. As you add more histamine you get a decrease in lung function. In normal individuals, the decrease in function is less severe than in asthmatics. Loss of plateau due to unloading of muscle; leftward shift due to muscle thickening. Nadolol decreases airway hyperresponsiveness in open-label phase 1 clinical trial in mild asthma. Subjects were monitored for 2 weeks, then had 6 weeks of dose-escalated treatment.
