Attitude Change
- individual level: help people perform a behaviour congruent to hoped-for attitude
- ICG (behaviour incongruent with existing attitude) behaviour + NV (non-voluntary) behaviour
- little change of attitude is expected
- extreme case: threat of death || mild case: introduce a prohibiting law
- CG (behaviour congruent w existing attitude) behaviour + NV behaviour
- little change of attitude is expected or even rebound
- reactance theory: when you are about to do something and someone tells you to do the thing;
you won’t do it as you perceive your freedom is lost
- CG behaviour + Voluntary behaviour
- one’s own behaviour may be used as info to strengthen attitudes
- self-perception theory: either strengthens or creates attitudes
