Lecture 13 – Evolution 1
Homology – doesn’t inherent traits from ancestors
Lecture 14 – Evolution 2
Species: They arrive over time and can become extinct. A group of organisms that can
reproduce from each other but are reproductively isolated from other species.
Two kinds of reproductive isolations that can identify new species
Prezygotic isolation: impedes mating or fertilization between different species
Postzygotic isolation: results in hybrids that are inviable or infertile
Dobzhansky-Muller Incompatibility
- Incompatibility between two lineage as each lineage requires new adaptive
alleles in its environment which leads to species barrier
Allopatric populations:
Parapatric populations: Side by side
Sympatric populations: Over lap
