NUR5011 Lecture 1: Workshop Week 1 Context
Document Summary
Some practices may be unethical but not illegal. Much of the social and interactions between patient and nurse are regulated by laws. Nurses should be giving information evidence-based rather than opinion-based. Respect the wishes of the patient but still try to persuade by educating about harms of. In order to stay registered we have to support vaccination resurgence of diseases. In ethical dilemmas a nurse must remember that they are regarded highly and so should never give advice based on personal experience or opinion but instead a professional opinion from evidence-based research should be given detailing facts. A nurse in this case should attempt to persuade the patient to get vaccines by educating about the potential harms and discussing the benefits while still showing the patient that they care and understand their side of everything. As long as something will have an impact on the wider community and not just the patient, we have the responsibility to educate them.
