Article 1: food addiction & obesity: food addiction= medicalization of common eating behaviours. Issues for way society views overeating and obesity: food addiction (fa)= not a currently validated concept, no proof that chemicals in food are addictive yet. No agreement of symptoms that distinguish other eating disorders from fa: medicalization of natural motivational needs, a lot of self-diagnosis, and info online about treatment and support even though its not a recognized condition. The fa hypothesis: some foods have potential to cause an addictive process, leading to problematic behaviours and clinical impairment/distress in some, 2 assumptions: some foods need classification as addictive substances. Also connected to moral disapproval to drug-related beh: word fa in literature therefore evokes negative connotations, no clarity in the literature on meaning of fa= can be no scientific basis for its validation.
